Dometic’s GO Hydration System make water easier to store and use while in the backcountry
What is probably the most important, least expensive piece of “gear” that I need to bring on any overlanding journey? Water! Nope it’s not glamorous, but it’s critically important for any overlanding adventure. For many of us, exploring and adventuring in the backcountry means being isolated and self-reliant. A freshwater spigot usually isn’t close; therefore, we pack water in a variety of ways. Not having enough clean, drinkable water is a dangerous and can bring one’s adventure to a quick halt.
Over the years, I have tried many different water storage solutions. Water is water, but how I store it is critical. It takes up space. My family and I carry a great amount of adventure gear, so space is critical and important. Dometic engineered and designed a better water storage solution. The food-grade, BPA-free water jug holds 11 liters or three gallons. So? What are the unique features?
The water jugs come with multiple style openings to accommodate different wants and needs. One opening allows for a water purifier to be screwed onto it, while the second opening is larger and allows easy access to clean inside the jug. A simple on/off spigot can also be attached. The jugs come with two handles made of nylon webbing that allow moving them effortlessly. With the jugs being 11L/3g, I easily pick them up and move them. There is also built-in tie down latches. Yep, the water jug has been reinvented. But wait, there’s more!
Dometic ingeniously designed a faucet to be used separately with other water jugs or paired with the Dometic GO water jugs. The faucet is charged via a USB port and allows up to 150 liters or 40 gallons of water before a recharge. The faucet feature that I liked the most is the magnetic bottom which allowed me to place the faucet on my camp table separately, with the water jug connected via the included plastic hose underneath the table. With a simple push of a button, the water flows. The flow automatically stops after one minute or one liter. The LED light on the faucet illuminates the spigot nicely to facilitate use in the dark. This piece of gear results in a more efficient camp life.
Water is such a critical and important part of adventure travel. The Dometic GO jugs and faucet make water easier to store and use. No excuses. Pack plenty and stay out longer!
Pricing starts at $70 for the Jug and $100 for the Faucet, and you can learn more by visiting the Dometic website at dometic.com
