The shared stories of travel among world travelers from around the globe is what truly sets this event apart from other gatherings. The vendor booths, roundtables, manufacturer demos and professional instruction all combine to truly make this the one-stop shop for all things overland each year.

Sadly only a few people got to enjoy the fleet of brand new Land Rovers on the off-road driving course this year, as the weather turned the course into a VERY muddy mess. Lots of people have criticized Land Rover for closing down the course, but the reality is that they had to for liability issues and to not completely trash their entire press fleet.

What’s not to like about Jeep’s concept vehicle the Africa. Longer wheel base, diesel power, a fixed roof, interior volume of a wagon and all sorts of quality touches. It wears a “Safari Rated” badge, but maybe after this weekend it is also “Tundra Rated.”
Ujoint Offroad makes some killer 4×4 vans, but they also built this awesome “Sherpa” overland camper/party rig for their company’s V4 flatbed van. This thing has everything you need to have a really good time with your friends on the overland trail!
Happy hours each day at Overland Expo 2015 went off in style, regardless of the crazy weather. Delorme, Goal Zero and Ninkasi Brewing teamed up for a Beers and Brats Happy Hour that attracted the crowds!
BFGoodrich showed off the capabilities of their new AT KO 2 tires, when the off-road course was open. I got to drive one of the company’s Jeeps and can attest to the high performance of these tires off-road, even at street pressures.
While MAXTRAX wasn’t at the event in any official capacity, they were utilized to great success to extract many overland rigs from the general camping area. I also saw them used as walking bridges across the muck so that people didn’t track mud into their RTTs.
There was some extremely impressive overland travel maps on the side of some rigs! This map represents a 14yr, about 3 months a year, journey by an Australian couple driving a custom FUSO based expedition camper.
The Rev’It #95 is a fully custom 2wd motorcycle that started life as a KTM 950.
The moto crowd showed off some truly impressive riding skills all weekend.
The closing BBQ at Overland Expo is always a great way to cap off an amazing event and bring everyone together one last time. This year we were treated with some much deserved sunshine and a crowd of true overlanders who toughed out the crazy weather all weekend.
