Toyota Announces $3.6B Investment

July 6, 2026

Toyota is making one of its biggest manufacturing moves in years, announcing a $3.6 billion investment that will transform its San Antonio, Texas, manufacturing campus into an even larger truck-building powerhouse. The expansion includes a second vehicle assembly line dedicated to the wildly popular Toyota Tacoma, creating 2,000 new jobs while nearly doubling the size of the facility by 2030.

For truck enthusiasts, the investment underscores Toyota’s long-term commitment to its body-on-frame lineup and signals growing demand for one of America’s best-selling midsize pickups. As part of the plan, Tacoma production will gradually shift from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Baja California in Mexico to the expanded Texas facility over the next four years.

The expansion will add approximately 2.5 million square feet to the existing Toyota Texas campus, strengthening the automaker’s North American manufacturing network while giving the plant greater production flexibility through advanced manufacturing technologies.

“Toyota’s continued investment in North America is a testament to our confidence in the region’s workforce, innovation and long-term growth potential,” said Ted Ogawa, president and CEO of Toyota Motor North America. “By expanding our San Antonio plant, we are deepening our commitment to American manufacturing, creating meaningful and sustainable jobs, while advancing our mission to deliver high-quality vehicles that meet the changing needs of customers today and into the future.”

For nearly two decades, Toyota Texas has served as the exclusive production home for the full-size Toyota Tundra pickup and Sequoia SUV. Last year alone, the plant assembled more than 197,000 vehicles, earning a reputation for quality and efficiency. The addition of Tacoma production will make the facility one of Toyota’s most important truck manufacturing operations in North America.

The announcement also represents a major milestone for the South Texas campus, which has room to grow thanks to its expansive 2,000-acre footprint. A new rear axle manufacturing plant is already nearing completion and is scheduled to begin production this fall, further expanding the site’s vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities.

“We are so proud of Team Texas and what they have accomplished over the past two decades,” said Frank Voss, group vice president of truck manufacturing for Toyota Motor North America and president of Toyota Texas. “The 2,000 acres of South Texas ranchland our plant stands on today was purposefully selected for its ability to scale with vehicle demand, and today marks the first step toward realizing that potential. We’re excited to add the beloved Tacoma to our existing award-winning lineup.”

Toyota’s latest investment raises its total commitment to the San Antonio operation to $8.3 billion since construction began in 2003. Once complete, the facility will employ approximately 6,000 Toyota team members and be supported by 23 on-site supplier partners.

State and local leaders praised the expansion as a significant economic win for Texas, recinforcing the state’s reputation as a premier destination for advanced manufacturing, while Bexar County and San Antonio officials highlighted Toyota’s continued confidence in the region’s skilled workforce and business environment.

For automotive enthusiasts, the expansion reflects more than just increased production capacity. It demonstrates Toyota’s confidence in the enduring popularity of pickup trucks and its commitment to building the Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia closer together in one of the country’s largest truck manufacturing complexes. As consumer demand for capable, durable pickups continues to grow, Toyota is ensuring its Texas-built truck lineup is ready to meet it for years to come.
