Calvary Overland Experience & Conservation Project
Padre Island National Seashore, with its enchanting coastlines and diverse ecosystems, continues to beckon nature enthusiasts and travelers from all walks of life. However, with its growing popularity, the need for conservation has never been more apparent. Enter Calvary Overland, a group of outdoor enthusiasts, who embarked on a mission to preserve Padre Island through their Camp & Clean initiative.

Padre Island, stretching over 70 miles along the Gulf of Mexico, is home to a breathtaking array of wildlife and unspoiled beaches. Yet, an increasing human footprint has brought about environmental challenges, primarily in the form of litter and pollution. Interestingly, a significant portion of the trash plaguing the island comes from offshore sources, further emphasizing the need for collective action.

Several weeks ago, Calvary Overland took up the mantle with their Camp & Clean project, rallying a diverse group of overland enthusiasts. Their journey began in Dallas, Texas where they host meetups and guided trips for the nearby overland communities’. Traveling south to the Mansfield cut, they camped for 3 days. On the final day, they embarked northbound to clean around 15 miles of coastline. An incredible feat considering they accomplished this with only 14 vehicles.

Calvary Overland’s dedicated volunteers collected a staggering 125 bags of trash. These bags brimmed with debris that had washed ashore from distant waters, a testament to the far-reaching impact of our actions. The volunteers’ efforts were not only commendable but also deeply inspiring and many of them hung bags from their roof racks and mirrors in order to maximize their impact.

This ambitious conservation project would not have been possible without the support of sponsors who share the vision of preserving Padre Island’s natural beauty. Key sponsors of this noble endeavor included OutdoorX4, Tread Lightly, Quadratec, Mike Shaw Toyota, and Embassy Suites by Hilton. Their support ensured that the required resources were available and the overall experience was seamless in order to make this project a resounding success.

Calvary Overland’s Camp & Clean initiative exemplifies the incredible impact that a dedicated group of individuals can have on preserving the natural wonders of our world. Not only does it serve as a powerful reminder of the environmental challenges we face, but it also inspires us to take action in protecting the precious ecosystems that make our world so extraordinary.

Padre Island National Seashore isn’t just a destination; it’s a testament to the power of collective effort and community spirit. With the support of sponsors and the tireless dedication of overland enthusiasts, Calvary Overland’s Camp & Clean initiative ensures that Padre Island’s unspoiled beauty will continue to flourish for generations to come.
