“There’s some water,” my good friend, Shane, commented.
“Perfect, let me fill up.” I responded.
We found ourselves deep in the canyons of Butch Cassidy country, Robber’s Roost, in south-central Utah. Our route led us through tight sandstone slot canyons; and now, we found ourselves in the more wide-open canyons in the search of water.
Hiking and other outdoor adventuring in outdoors require one important necessity—water. The human body can survive and endure many things; however, absence of water is not one of them. We need water! Luckily, I was carrying Grayl’s GeoPress Ti Purifier. This 24-ounce purifier is a robust piece of gear! It’s an ingenious combination of water bottle, filter, purifier, and pot—all in one. The user needs to fill the titanium cup/port with water and then press the purifier/filter down into the cup/pot. Within about 30 seconds, the water passes from the titanium cup/pot through the special valve, through the purifier/filter into the 24-ounce bottle. Voila…Drink up!
Grayl was founded in 2012 by Nancie Weston and Travis Merrigan who shared concerns about plastic (water bottles) pollution and poor quality of drinking water worldwide. Today, the company has sharpened their focus onto portable water purification for outdoor, travel, and emergency preparedness use.
I grabbed my GeoPress Ti and detached the cup/pot from the body of the purifier/filter. I filled the cup/pot from the Robber’s Roost stream cascading its way to the Dirty Devil River. The small stream looked clear and fresh. But one never knows what bacteria lies in those crystal-clear waters. The Grayl GeoPress Ti Purifier removes waterborne pathogens such as E. Coli and Cholera as well as heavy metals, pesticides, flavors, and odors. With the use of the GeoPress Ti, water just tastes better and is healthier. The cartridge for the GeoPress Ti is rated for 350 cycles which equates to roughly 65 gallons. One small issue that arose during my testing is where to put the lid for the cup/pot. It doesn’t really attach to anything, so it can easily be lost. I will attach a short piece of cordlette to the cup/pot itself.
It sounds somewhat insignificant; but every time I use the Grayl’s GeoPress Ti, I walk away not only hydrated but also impressed. The design is simple and effective. The fit and finish are noteworthy, and I suggest that this purifier/filter should last a lifetime. Good, safe water is critically important for our health.
When adventuring outdoors, drink right, use Grayl’s GeoPress Ti Purifier.
