The LifeSaver Jerry Can Provides Clean Pressurized Water on the Trail
Yet again, my wife, Louise, and I are exploring and adventuring in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument—located in south-central Utah and continuing south to the Arizona state border. This high desert landscape includes a wondrous land of canyons, mesas, alcoves, refreshing streams, and hidden gems. We are on a never-ending mission to find and discover those gems.
“Pull over,” Louise uttered matter-of-factly.
“What for?” I inquired.
“Water!”
This Utah desert lacks water. Sagebrush and juniper trees dot the landscape with sandstone rock and sand as a backdrop. Water remains critically important. We need water for cooking, hiking, and adventuring. Yes, we brought a few gallons, but we never can have enough.
Louise grabbed the jerry can and dipped it in the Escalante River. The cool water filled the jug within minutes, and she tightened the cap. The LifeSaver 20000UF (20,000 liters/5,282 gallons) 20000UF jug is NOT any ordinary water container. The container includes a 20,000L/5,282g water filter along with a pressuring pump. The pump pressurizes the container, and the spigot allows water to flow through the filter. Clean, drinkable water results.
LifeSaver started as a result of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, which showcased the need for clean, reliable water. Michael Pritchard designed the first LifeSaver bottle in 2007. LifeSaver designs, engineers, and manufactures a wide variety of filters to accommodate the adventurer. Whether it’s the LifeSaver Liberty filter for backpacking or the 20000UF filter for vehicle-based travel, I have been satisfied and satiated by their products. I value highly the ability to filter water along my travels. Whether in the Rockies of Colorado or the deserts of Utah, I can simply find and filter water to use and drink.
Louise and I headed southeast on the Hole in the Rock Road, eagerly anticipating adventure. We pulled over at the popular Peekaboo and Spooky Canyons’ trailhead to prepare for our slot canyon adventure. I pumped a few times to pressurize the container, turned the spigot, and poured fresh, clean water. With our Camelbaks filled, we headed down the trail, ready to hike.
Overlanders and adventurers are saturated with the latest and newest gear. We are fortunate that many companies design and develop gear that makes backcountry adventuring easier and more fun. Granted, it sometimes seems challenging to decide what gear to purchase and what not to delay purchasing. However, the LifeSaver 20000 jerry can is a piece of overlanding equipment that everyone should consider purchasing. All overlanders need water. Reliable, clean water, right? The LifeSaver 20000UF jerry can provides what you need. Fill it up and go! See you out there.
Likes:
• The ability to fill up from any water sources. Obviously, the cleaner the water, the better for the filter. Otherwise, too dirty of water will shorten the life of the filter.
• Pressurizing pump and spigot make water fill-ups simple.
• Optional Shower Head for a quick rinse or washing off something. (no personal knowledge-did not test)
Dislikes:
• The can itself can lose pressure easily.
• The closer to empty, the more pumps you need to do to pressurize can.
