Lock’er Down Center Console
A buddy posted on Facebook that three pistols had just been stolen from his truck. That was the last straw. I hold a concealed carry permit and often keep a firearm within reach. And, like most people, I occasionally have the need to leave other valuables in my truck — a wallet, checkbook, bank deposit, etc. My friend’s plight spurred me to action. I was done playing the odds that my vehicle wouldn’t be the target of a heartbreaking theft. I recalled seeing a console safe in another friend’s truck a few years back. What was it called…Oh yeah! Lock’er Down! Good name. I found them online and placed my order.
When the box arrived I was surprised at the weight. This safe was no joke. Fabricated from 12-gauge cold-rolled domestic steel, it looked intimidating (to a thief) and industrial. I ordered mine with a 4-digit combination lock, but other lock options include:
• 7-sided tubular key cam
• Push-button electronic
• Abloy high security key
Easy-to-follow instructions and quality replacement bolts made installation a cinch. Everything fit perfectly and no modifications to the original console were necessary. I followed the instructions to create my personal combination and the spring-loaded door popped open without a hitch. With the factory console lid closed, a small dead space remains above the safe allowing handy access, or everything can be dropped into the safe in seconds. An optional, powerful magnet is also available to secure a firearm to the case or lid if desired. Some of the original console space is compromised but a surprising amount of room remains.
Lock’er Down has an in-vehicle safe for many automobiles, most popular trucks and SUVs.
Pros:
• Peace of mind that you aren’t relying on luck to keep your valuables
• Easy access through your choice of locks
• Impressive finish and appearance
• Easy installation
• Lifetime warranty
• Made in Texas
Cons:
• Some console volume is compromised to make room for the safe.
• Another step is involved to access locked items (The nature of having a safe)
