Toadfish’s Stowaway Lantern packs a big punch in a small package

Snow flurries were just beginning as I peered into the cave. Cow patties littered the ground where I was about to lay out my sleeping gear. I staged my Toadfish Stowaway Lantern in a notch on the wall where its folding stand set a suitable angle for me to work. The stand doubles as a hanger and encircles a magnetic base and suction cup, neither of which were needed at the moment, but would be handy in plenty of other settings. The tough aluminum housing is IPX7-sealed for water protection. It even floats. Combined with a flashing mode and both green and red-light options, a trio of these would substitute for boat lights in a pinch. Output on the colored options is only 20 lumens and provides up to 15 hours of low impact lighting that also preserves night vision.

Dynamite comes in small packages, and the Toadfish Stowaway Lantern measures only 3″ x 3″ x 1.5″ and weighs a meager 5.7 oz. The 300-mHa batteries are USB-rechargeable and a 300-lumen SOS mode lasts an impressive 10 hours. It will operate for up to five hours on the full white 300-lumen output setting and 11 hours on the lower 150-lumen setting.

Once the cow patties had been repurposed as fuel for my fire, I switched to the green light mode for a bit more ambience in my abode. This versatility ensures you’re covered for various scenarios, from emergencies to cozy lighting in your tent, or in my case, cave.

Speaking of green, a standout aspect of Toadfish as a brand is their commitment to sustainability. For every product sold, Toadfish pledges to replant oyster beds to help clean coastal waters. Purchasing the Stowaway Lantern supports this mission, adding an element of environmental stewardship to your investment.

The Toadfish Stowaway Lantern isn’t just a tool—it’s a reliable companion for outdoor enthusiasts, combining practical features with eco-conscious values. Its rugged design, multifunctional lighting options, and commitment to sustainability make it an excellent choice for adventurers and responsible consumers alike. For me, it was the perfect backlight for a steadily increasing snowfall and, ultimately, another comfort added to sleeping outdoors.
