OutdoorX4 contributor Bryon Dorr, of Exploring Elements, joined the Lucky 8 Offroad team at this year’s Vermont Overland Trophy. He shares a glimpse into the 2015 VOT here, and an in-depth look at this fun off-road/overland event will be featured in Issue #11 of OutdoorX4 Magazine.

The Vermont Overland Trophy is in it’s third year in 2015 and crowned a trophy winner for the first time, as previously there were finishers, but no overall winner. Joe Safford took home the first VOT Trophy, by having the lowest combined points from the challenge sections, in his heavily modified Jeep TJ, with only 1 point! The team of Al DeOrleans & Francisco Hernandez took home the Team Spirit Award, arguably the most coveted at VOT, and Greg McKenzie won the “Camel Trophy Mustache Award,” keeping it in the family, as his brother Lazz won the award in 2014. The VOT adventures across the Class 4 Roads of Vermont carry on the spirit of the Camel Trophy.

Who needs a jack??? Just drop the vehicle on the rock slider on a big boulder and let the front suspension droop. Quick and efficient way to change a tire.

Proper team communication was vital through out VOT.

Lots of smiling faces every day at VOT 🙂

America the beautiful.

Mud was found!

The experienced teaching the beginners and everyone pitching in to help with safe efficient recoveries.

Vermont Overland’s dog, Jack, watches over it all.

Winching is a key component of forward progress, and many times vehicle preservation.

Truly spectacular architecture in the mountains of Vermont.

Long days on the trail require some evening R&R by both the VOT staff and participants.

The final challenge section was quite the puzzle to minimize points.

“Camping” was displayed in a wide variety of styles across the VOT participants. Outdoor X4 Magazine was introduced to many of them, to great accolades.
