Historic Grand Canyon Lodge Destroyed by Fire

A fire near the Grand Canyon, known as the Dragon Bravo Fire which started on July 4, has destroyed dozens of structures, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge.

The wildfire, which was the result of a lightning strike, was originally handled as a “controlled burn” and not immediately considered a threat by the National Park Service. However, three days later the fire had multiplied in size, leading to evacuation notices and eventually resulting in the loss of multiple structures, including the Grand Canyon Lodge.

Additionally, the North Rim is currently being impacted by the White Sage Fire and park officials have permanently closed off access to the North Rim for the rest of the year.
