Black Diamond Supports Access Fund
December 1, 2025
Access to the areas we love to explore is not guaranteed. Each year, more climbing areas (accessible by foot, vehicle, and/or motorcycle) face sale, development, or closure as public protections weaken and private ownership shifts. Sometimes the only way to protect the lands we enjoy is to buy it.
That’s why Access Fund created the nation’s only revolving Climbing Conservation Loan Program—to act fast, purchase threatened crags and transfer them into public ownership or long-term stewardship so they’re permanently protected. This program has already saved access at iconic places such as the Motherlode in Red River Gorge, Kentucky; Lower Town Wall in Index, Washington; and most recently, Ghost Town in Chimney Rock, North Carolina—and helped local climbing organizations like the Carolina Climbers Coalition and the Washington Climbers Coalition step in when their backyard crag was at risk.
This year, Black Diamond is matching every donation up to $80,000 to help us do just that. When you give, you’re not just donating—you’re investing in permanent access. Your support not only fuels critical land purchases, it also empowers Access Fund and local partners to move quickly when a climbing area’s future hangs in the balance.
To support this effort, please visit the link HERE and share with fellow adventurists who seek to protect the areas we enjoy. All matching contributions will continue through December 12, 2025 so act today!
