The Hitch Slider from 41.22 is a quality piece of equipment when traveling off-road
For years the trailer hitch receiver on my JK Unlimited Rubicon has been abused by rock outcroppings and obstacles while navigating some of America’s most formidable trails. This past April in Moab, my new Gladiator’s hitch receiver spent more time dragging along the terrain than not and along the way, I came to the realization the longer wheelbase on my Gladiator – and aforementioned JK Unlimited Rubicon – isn’t as nimble as my shorter wheelbase Wrangler.
Continued battering of vehicle’s trailer hitch receiver can’t be healthy for it. After all, you could potentially dimple the receiver so that it would no longer accept any hitch. You could tear off the collar that helps protect the receiver opening, and you can bend/damage the safety chain attachments on either side of the receiver.
To resolve this concern, I found a worthwhile, American-made solution: the Hitch Slider.
The Hitch Slider, built by 41.22, is made from a solid piece of CNC Machined 6061-T6 Aircraft-Grade Aluminum. It is so strong that its certified breaking strength is 37,170lbs! Not only will the Hitch Slider protect your hitch receiver from damage, it also incorporates a recovery point to attach D-rings or soft shackles to. I recently completed a week-long overland trip where I thought I would give it a test in the California desert. Through washes, washouts and ledges, it slid easily over obstacles, saving my hitch from any damage.
If you’re concerned that dragging your hitch through the rocks on your long wheel base adventure vehicle could potentially create a larger problem long-term, then check out the Hitch Slider. The $189 cost of entry is well worth the investment.
