REDARC Electronics’ Toyota Tacoma is a remarkable blend of thoughtful layout and functionality in the field for overland and vehicle-based adventure

REDARC is excited to unveil the first addition to its North American fleet of Overland adventure vehicles, highlighting the endless possibilities that come with the REDARC powered dual-battery system which is now available for overland adventurists here in the U.S.

Built using a 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road as a blank canvas for the build, the new REDARC Tacoma has been custom outfitted for North American adventure. The truck is an off-road machine, camping platform, and electrical powerhouse outfitted with two dual battery systems and a custom Mits Alloy canopy. The build has impressive off-road and overland abilities, but specifically showcases the cutting-edge technology and 12V capabilities made possible with REDARC products which we are currently using for a Ford Transit build to be featured in an upcoming issue of OutdoorX4 Magazine.

“The on-board power system in this Tacoma features all of the things REDARC are famous for, rugged, innovative and reliable off-grid gear” says Craig Herriot, General Manager for International Sales at REDARC.

“And this system is something our customers and outfitters can easily replicate. REDARC offers power solutions for any build and all the components being modular and compatible means you can start small and build up your vehicle as you need. The products are easy to install and easy to upgrade, and we offer a solution for any kind of rig for any kind of travel and overlanding lifestyle.”
The REDARC products installed in this Tacoma allow the user to:

• Unify accessories for centralized monitoring and control (RedVision Manager30 Kit)
• Jump start the starter battery from auxiliary battery (SBI)
• Charge from DC, AC, and Solar inputs (Manager30)

And much more. To be able to reach extreme off-grid destinations, additional modifications were made using only the best gear available. Each component was hand selected for quality, durability, and reliability. See each individual aftermarket addition that make this truck the ultimate overlanding machine.

TRUCK MODIFICATIONS & ADDITIONS
REDARC begins each build from the ground up. Starting with the wheels, REDARC wrapped the TRD Off-Road wheels with rugged Falken WildPeak AT3 265/75R16 tires. An ICON 1.5” Add-A-Leaf Kit and DayStar Rear Airbags prepare the truck for any challenge on the trails. A powerful Warn VR 10-S winch paired with a reinforced Factor 55 Fairlead, Shackle Mount, and ARB Essentials Recovery Kit provides a workhorse winch system capable of hauling up the steepest rock steps. A Front Runner Roof Rack fitted with Rigid LED pods allows for plenty of roof storage and the CBI Covert Front Bumper and 30” Rigid Light Bar complete the front grill.

To stay off-grid for as long as possible, the Tacoma needed to be camp ready, so REDARC decided to install the Alu-Cab Gen 3.1 Expedition Rooftop Tent and Shadow Awning.

Under the hood REDARC added a Full River Full Throttle AGM battery, 25A BCDC in-vehicle battery charger, and a Smart Battery Isolator (SBI). The BCDC isolates and charges the batteries through the alternator and through solar. REDARC paired the BCDC with the SBI to gain the ability to jump the start battery off the auxiliary if any problems arise while off-grid.

The under hood dual battery system also powers a Switch Pro SP-900 panel that controls a whole range of 12V accessories and Rigid Lights. The Rigid Lights include a 30” Light Bar on the front grill, LED Light Pods, a 40” SR Pro Light Bar on the roof rack and a pillar mounted 4” 360 Series pod.

INSIDE THE CAB
A REDARC dual battery gauge was dash-mounted to monitor the state-of-charge of the starting and auxiliary batteries. The Tacoma is also ready to tow, with a Tow-Pro Elite brake controller tucked away under the dash.

CANOPY
Inside a custom flatbed tray canopy by Mits Alloy, REDARC created a system to give the Tacoma enough power to explore places no other truck can reach. Two Dual 120Ah Lithium Batteries combine to create 240Ah of usable lithium power storage. To keep the batteries charged, REDARC installed their own Manager30 Battery Management System capable of charging the lithium batteries from the truck’s alternator, solar, or shore / AC power.

The Manager30 inside the Mits Alloy Canopy powers an ARB Zero Fridge on a Clearview fridge slide, ARB Dual Air Compressor and plenty of interior and exterior lighting. A 2000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter provides 110V power available for all household accessories including camera chargers, laptops, coffee machines and blenders.

ENOUGH POWER FOR ANY ADVENTURE
The whole system is monitored and controlled by the REDARC RedVision vehicle management system. With two RedVision color displays, one on each side of the canopy, all accessories can be controlled from multiple points around the vehicle as well as through the RedVision smartphone app. RedVision also gives visibility to water tank levels, enables a user to turn accessories on and off, and monitor battery levels and charge status from the Manager30. It’s a one stop shop for control and monitoring of everything in the canopy.

The new REDARC Tacoma made its first official appearance at Overland Expo Mountain West in Colorado, and will also be present at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff later this month as well as the East event in Virginia this October. It’s an exceptionally built truck that’s truly built for adventure, and an excellent guide for those of you looking to build out a Tacoma or comparably sized truck for vehicle-based and self-sufficient travel.
