Alu-Cab’s Icarus offers a world of opportunity to maximize how vehicles are used to get out and explore

What do you do when a perfectly restored and freshly painted Land Rover Defender 110 5-door, already built out for adventure, arrives in your shop? You strip off its hard top and turn it into one of the finest machines you’ll find on the east coast. This is exactly what the folks at OK4WD in New Jersey did, taking a client’s D110 and integrating an Alu-Cab Icarus to transform the vehicle into a truck maximized for long-term overland and vehicle-based adventure.

After the conversion

The Alu-Cab Icarus conversion opens the door of amazing possibilities to take the 110 for more than just a Sunday cruise. The factory roof of the Land Rover is unbolted and replaced with Alu-cab’s bolt-on Icarus conversion. With the tent deployed and the mattress raised up, an adult can stand in the back of the Troopy, which allows for a ton of options if the client were to build out the back to create a kitchen area, custom storage, or a living area separate from the sleeping space above.

The sleeping areas is oversized thanks to the wheel base of the vehicle which means plenty of room for two adults to rest comfortably. With these Land Rover 110 5-door trucks, it’s truly about the journey and the destination when you get there.

Traveling at a slower speed, the 3L Diesel provides plenty of low-end torque, powering the Yokohama Geolandar M/T tires across any terrain with ease. Additionally, an ARB 4×4 front bumper and Safari snorkel add aesthetic functionality with additional skid plates and rock sliders providing protection on the approach, departure, and everything in between. Gearing was also upgraded help get it down the road a little easier. The end result is a truck that’s beautiful, functional, and ready to take on the world.
